Due North

 Winter thrushes are thinking about heading back to Scandinavia. Redwing and fieldfare flocks perch in the trees all facing in the same northerly direction. Their silhouettes in the bare branches create neat stencils. But with the cold north-easterly wind still blowing so hard after a freezing fortnight their departure might be delayed.
